Handmade ceramics by Marie-Helene Yalom
Marie-Helene Yalom was born in France and traveled around the world before settling in Northern California. Her ceramic work is defined directly by her love for shapes and textures, focusing on pieces for every day use that are both utilitarian and remind her of the landscapes and experiences she encountered throughout her world travel. She uses a combination of hand-built and altered thrown techniques that allows her to express the organicity of nature, and draws many of her inspirations from images of her childhood in Provence: uneven rustic environments, old stones and rugged landscapes, combined with an interest in Asian aesthetics, particularly Japanese.
